Its been a long time in the making, but BioRUST v4 is now online!
PRESS RELEASE:
Far more than just a lick of
paint, the new design features total integration of the tutorials and resources
into the forums and gallery. Furthermore, the backend of the site is now
much more powerful, which will make exciting new additions that much easier.
Oh, and BioRUST still totally free, non-commercially motivated, and run by
enthusiasts! Hurrah! :) |

EDITOR'S LETTER
|
Dear Readers,
Hello and welcome to the first ever BioRUST newsletter! When I
initially created my online portfolio a little over three years ago I had no
idea it would sprout a tutorials section and grow into an online community of
this sheer size... but here I am writing this column in a newsletter that will
go out to over 8000 people. Funny how life throws you a curveball at
times, isn't it? ;)
Anyway, less of the reflection and more of the waffle. Times are changing,
and BioRUST has had to change with them. As the community grows, we are using
ever greater amounts of bandwidth. Whilst this has, unfortunately, meant
the introduction of banner ads into the overall design to pay for server costs,
the overall result may actually be extremely beneficial over the long term. At
current projections we are running with a slight profit over server costs - a
profit which I will happily return to BioRUST to pay for competition prizes,
better server hardware, etc. Other sites may run themselves as a business,
but rest assured that everything earned via the banner ads and donations is
ploughed back right into the site. BioRUST is like a massive hobby for
me... although it does seem to be getting more and more life-consuming every
day!
Well, that's my speech over for this issue. Have a pleasant and productive
Autumn, and I'll be seeing you either online, or in the next newsletter release
in Winter 2006.

Future improvements will take the form of better resource management,
personalized suggestions for downloads, and even contribution-level indicators
for the various artists & authors.

BioRUST absolutely thrives on user participation! If
you want to write a tutorial for BioRUST, just publish it in the
tutorials forum.
If its good enough, we may even move it to the main pages for you... which get a
LOT of traffic. You retain full credit for your work.
